The Oscar-winning actress caused a stir at the 2012 Academy Awards when she showed off a gam in a gown with a daring slit, but it's far from the first time she's sported the style. Take a look back at the similarly racy red carpet fashions she's worn over the years.
And as everyone knows by now, Angelina was breathtaking in a strapless black Atelier Versace dress with a thigh-high slit at the 2012 Academy Awards last Sunday. The only thing that was more talked about than the gown was the stance the Oscar winner hit both on the red carpet and again onstage while presenting the Oscar for best adapted screenplay to show off her leg; it was good-naturedly mocked during the ceremony, spawned countless headlines ...
At first glance, Angelina looked downright demure in her sparkling Atelier Versace dress and minimalist makeup at the 2009 Golden Globes. That all changed, of course, once she posed so that we could see one of her stems peeking through. (1/11/2009)
Hmm, are you beginning to see a pattern here? Once again, Angelina wore a Versace design in a neutral hue, featuring a sophisticated neckline and -- wait for it -- a super sexy slit when it was time to premiere "The Tourist" in NYC. (12/6/2010)
The appearance made by Angelina Jolie's leg at the 2012 Oscars telecast was one of the most popular things about the entire show! Of course, that wasn't the first time the actress had flaunted her gams. Back in 2003, the "Girl, Interrupted" star strutted her stuff in a black dress -- obviously one of her favorite shades to wear -- with a plunging neckline and, yep, a sexy slit that allowed people to catch a glimpse of her right leg at the ...
Angie and her leg were joined by the dashing Brad Pitt as they attended the premiere of his movie "Inglourious Basterds" at the Cannes Film Festival in France a few years ago. They do make a handsome trio, don't they? (5/20/2009)
The star shook up her signature look a little when she opted for a more voluminous Atelier Versace gown in chocolate -- not black -- for France's Cannes Film Festival last year. Yet it still had the split! (5/16/2011)
Angelina showed off a single stem while rocking a short-sleeved dress by (gasp!) Michael Kors at the L.A. premiere of her kiddie flick "Kung Fu Panda 2." Should Donatella Versace be worried? (5/22/2011)
Brad's best gal once again opted for a Michael Kors creation at the 2012 Producers Guild Awards last month. Of course, the long lacy gown gown had a thigh-high slit that allowed her to show a little skin at the event. While Angelina's looks are quite similar, we have to admit they're all gorgeous. Which is your favorite? (1/21/2012)
Not to be left out, Angelina's left leg (and right arm) made an appearance at the premiere of action flick "Salt" in Tokyo. The movie ended up grossing more than $293 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, no doubt because so many men wanted to see the sexy Jolie and both of her legs kick some butt. (7/27/2010)
Forget "The Artist," the real hot topic from the Oscars last month was Angelina Jolie's right leg, which she constantly kept thrusting out from under her high-cut black Atelier Versace gown. Within hours, dozens of "memes" — a concept that spreads via the internet — were created, with the actress's leg being digitally added onto everything from the Statue of Liberty to the Moon landing. So what did she think about the phenomenon?
"I honestly didn't pay attention to it," Jolie, 36, tells The Huffington Post in a new interview. "You know what I mean? I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it. And the people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff. I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention. It's as simple as a being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else."

When she walked the stage to present the Best Adapted Screenplay award, the audience laughed when she jutted her leg out and gave them a knowing look with a hand on her hip. And when "Community" actor Jim Rash stepped up to the mic to accept his statue for "The Descendants," he also struck the same pose, albeit his leg was much more covered up. "Honestly, as soon as I saw her pose like that, I was like, 'I'm going to do that,'" Rash told Entertainment Weekly after the show. "I knew [fellow winner, director Alexander Payne] was going to take the reins, so I was like, 'How can I make a moment?' — selfishly."
