While artists dress wilder than anyone for their red carpet and on-stage moments, there’s a thin line between cool and just plain crazy. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj always looked like a space case (in a cool and cute way), but this ensemble is out of this world. A spawn of R2D2 and Jane Jetson, the outdated “futuristic” structured skirt and shoulder attachments made the rapper look too much like a Tomorrowland employee.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus’ hodgepodge version of a gangsta girl outfit at the 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards is not only a smirkable, but certainly too revealing for the then 17-year-old. An aggressive attempt to break out of her goofy Hannah Montana image, the outfit choice can only be attributed to the follies of youth—and a terrible stylist.
Christina Aguilera
It’s always interesting how fashions that were so cool at the time become grossly laughable just a few years later. But I have a feeling that this look wasn’t cool at the time either. Christina Aguilera’s frightening wig at the 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards looks like a bad case of electrocution that hopefully shocked some fashion sense into her. Leave the big, Aquanet hair to the headbangers and Tina Turner next time, please?...
Fergie
Fergie as a superhero? Not a crazy idea considering the chiseled pop singer certainly has the cut to fit a hero cloth. But her 2010 tour look needed some serious editing: The silver visor screams “Super Friends Retirement Community” and that metal codpiece? Leave it back at BEP headquarters next time.
Lady Gaga
The legend of the yeti is true! Oh wait, that’s just Lady Gaga swathed in curtains of hair extensions. Not a stranger to the strange, Gaga’s hairbrained 2010 tour costume doesn’t fit into her usual sexy, wildly edgy and forward-thinking looks. Some needs to take a razor (or a blow torch) to that whole outfit!
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has one of the coveted bodies in the business, but whoever green lit this hot mess for her New Year’s Eve 2011 performance must’ve been out for blood! The unfortunate jumpsuit wrinkled in the most unflattering places and made JLo look like a frumpy amphibian. Just goes to show that bedazzling can rarely fix a disastrous look.
MIA
Performing while pregnant seems to be all the rage nowadays. But none made it as obvious as M.I.A. at the 2009 Grammy Awards—and her ensemble didn’t let anyone forget it. Skin tight is always a hard look for a very pregnant woman, but to exaggerate her size with giant polka dots and sheer just seems cruel! What made it harder to watch was the thought that she could pop at any moment.
Beyonce
Rarely does Beyonce have a fashion miss, but this outfit made the stunning singer look like a human dream catcher. The barely-there dress, while an awesome idea, turned a dream into a fringy, frayed, macramed nightmare.
Britney Spears
It’s one thing to have a super hero-inspired look (as per Fergie), but it’s another thing to look like you actually believe you can fly. Britney Spears’ 2004 tour ensemble could’ve been another sexy on-stage look, but the addition of a full-on cape made the singer look a little too insane.

Madonna has a history of outrageous outfits. The 53-year-old rocked risqué fishnets, bikini shorts and lace-up platform heels and showed off her assets at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami this past weekend.
