Lagos – An Ojo Customary Court on Saturday sentenced a commercial motorcyclist and his passenger to 21 days imprisonment each for failing to observe the mandatory sanitation as stipulated by the Lagos State Government.
Sanusi Abdullahi, 26 and Dare Adejuwon, 32, were found guilty on a one-count charge of willful disregard for sanitation laws.
The Prosecutor, Mr Abdulrasaq Akande, told the court that the convicts were apprehended along Iba New Town in Lagos.
He said that Abdullahi had conveyed his passenger from the Iyana-iba bus-stop unknown to him that he was being trailed by the sanitation officials who caught up with them when his passenger was about alighting at the Odunade petrol station.
Akande said that the convict had claimed that the passenger was his brother from the village whom he was going to show his landed property at Egbeda.
The prosecutor told the court that when Adejuwon was interrogated, he told the officials that he was a visitor in Lagos and was not aware of the sanitation.
The convicts had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Court President, Alhaji T.K. Keshinro, sentenced them to 21 days imprisonment each with an option of fine of N10, 000 each.
